Obituary for Jane Marion Zak (Monkiewicz )

Jane (Monkiewicz) Zak, 90, of Wethersfield, died Tuesday, October 31, 2017. She was born November 19, 1926 in New Britain, the only child of Zygmunt and Pauline (Seledyn) Monkiewicz. Jane grew up in New Britain, graduating in 1944 from New Britain Senior High School and in 1948 from what was then known as State Teachers College (now CCSU). She taught in her hometown elementary schools before marrying her husband, the late Dr. Raymond Zak, a Hartford dentist, and moved to Wethersfield in 1955. With their two children in elementary school, Jane resumed teaching in Hartford, first at the Kinsella School and then at the Martin Luther King Jr. School, from where she retired in 1987. Jane was known for her creative classroom bulletin boards, devotion to Hartford children and spirited personality. In her retirement, she enjoyed dogs, knitting, gardening, crossword puzzles, and walking and living in Griswoldville. Jane is survived by her daughter, Constance Fraser of Middletown. She was predeceased by her husband in 1975 and her son, Justin, in 2014. Deepest appreciation goes to Josephine Appiah-Danquah of Right at Home for her dedicated personal care in recent years. The burial in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield, CT., is private. The Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Wethersfield, has care of the arrangements.
