Life Story for Marilyn "Mimi" Cornwall (Sims)

Cornwall, Marilyn Sims, a longtime resident of Wethersfield, died on Tuesday January 2, 2018 at the age of 88. Mimi was predeceased by her husband of more than 55 years, Perry H. Cornwall. She is survived by her daughters Elizabeth and Leslie as well as 3 grandchildren. Mimi was raised in a military family and lived in several states before settling in Connecticut. She graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
Mimi worked for the State of Connecticut for the department of Labor and the Bureau of Education and Services for the Blind. She was a long time tutor at the YMCA of Hartford, tutoring adults and children to read. She also tutored in an after school program for children at the Asylum Hill Church.
Mimi was, as she would describe herself, an eternal optimist, always looking for the good in everyone and in every experience. She was also an exercise fanatic. She instilled in her family the love of sports (swimming, tennis, skiing, as well as getting outside for a hike). Mimi was an avid bridge player, loved doing Sudoku to keep her mind going.
At Mimi's request, we will have a private ceremony to celebrate her life at the time of her burial at the Portland Center Cemetery, Bartlett St., Portland, CT.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cornwall Scholarship Fund, c/o Friends of Eleanor Buck Wolf Nature Center, 156 Prospect St, Wethersfield, CT, 06109. For further information, or to leave an expression of condolence please visit Farleysullivan.com.
