John Joseph "Jack"  Scully
John “Jack” Joseph Scully, 97, of Newington, beloved husband of 58 years to the late Margaret Elizabeth (Lyman) Scully, peacefully passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Hartford Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born and raised in Hartford, son of the late John and Irene (Halloran) Scully. He attended Hartford Schools, graduating from Bulkeley High. Jack was a highly decorated Army Veteran of World War II, serving with the 9th Division. After being Honorably discharged from the military, Jack enrolled in Bentley College, where he earned his degree in accounting. Jack and Peg moved to Newington where they raised their family and resided for many years. Prior to his retirement, he began a long and dedicated career in accounting, first with Downing and Perkins, and then with Schuster Trucking Co. He was a fourth-degree member of the Newington Knights of Columbus Council 3884, where he was Past Grand Knight and was a faithful communicant of Holy Spirit Church, Newington.
Jack will be lovingly remembered by his children, Peggy Brutnell and her husband Don, of Marlborough, Kathleen Scully of Cheshire, and Thomas Scully of Niantic; grandchildren, Patrick Scully and his wife Sarah, Kate Scully, “roommate” Jen Kelly, Elizabeth Kelly and her partner Todd Charbonnier, Michael Scully and his wife Kristin, Neil Schelly and his wife Jennifer, Thomas Scully Jr. and his wife Naphtalie, and Susie Hetrick and her husband Ben; great grandchildren, Winter, Keir, Gus, Lexi, Brooklyn, George, Teagan, Brayden, Aeryn, Cherry, Haddie, Eden, Finn, Jack, Avery and Cameron; daughter in law Debbie Scully of Palm Harbor, Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Peg, Jack was predeceased by his son, John F. Scully and daughter-in-law, Sandra Scully, as well as his siblings, Lou, Dot, Irene and Evelyn. Jack’s family will receive relatives and friends Sunday, August 27, 2017 from 4 to 7pm at The Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Jack’s life will be Monday, August 28, 2017 at 10am in The Church of the Holy Spirit, 183 Church Street, Newington (attendees are asked to go directly to the church).
