Obituary for Jozef Bielenda

Jozef  Bielenda
Jozef Bielenda, 91, of Wethersfield, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2016, at Hartford Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Norma (Salazar) Bielenda. Born in Budy, Poland, he was the son of Vicenti and Karolina (Draus) Bielenda. During WWII, he was separated from his family and forced by the German government at gunpoint to board a train destined to Frankfurt, Germany where he was used for slave labor. In 1944, he was liberated by the U.S. Army. He briefly served in the U.S Army as a guard for General Dwight D. Eisenhower as the war was ending in Europe. After the war, he was offered three countries to live and chose the United States. He decided on Connecticut and raised his family in Wethersfield. He married in 1959 at Corpus Christi Church in Wethersfield where he was an active parishioner. He enjoyed competitively playing cards with family, friends and strangers and watching the Boston Red Sox. He leaves behind three children: his daughter Carol and her husband Robert Cote of Ashford, CT; and 2 sons, Peter and wife Gina of Wethersfield, CT; and Steven and wife Tracey also of Wethersfield, CT. He also leaves behind four grandchildren; Luca, Gianna, Matthew and Ava. He was predeceased by his brother Mitchell Bielenda. He leaves behind many brothers-and-sisters-in-law including a close sister-in-law, Amelia Morange as well as nieces and nephews in Poland and in the U.S. The family thanks the staff of palliative and hospice care at Hartford Hospital. There will be no calling hours. There will be a Mass of Christian burial on Monday December 5, 2016 at 10:00 am in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield,CT. Burial will follow in Village Cemetery, Marsh Street, Wethersfield, CT. The Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Wethersfield has care of the arrangements.
