Obituary for Lucille "Lucy" Laing (Rubera)

Lucille (Rubera) “Lucy” Laing of East Hartford, beloved wife of the late Raymond P. Laing, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, September 23, 2016. Lucy grew up in Hartford and graduated from the Holy Trinity High School. Daughter of the late Santina and Paul Rubera, she was also predeceased by her brother Joseph A. Rubera and her sister-in-law Nancy Laing. She was a member of the St. Christopher Church Prayer Shawl Ministry, bereavement group, and loved spending time with her morning coffee club friends. As well as raising her family, she also worked at Sage-Allen for 18 years.Lucy will be dearly missed by her family, a son, Kevin Laing of Brighton, England; five daughters, Ellenmary and Joseph Valvo of Wethersfield, Patricia and Thomas Welles of East Hartford, Susan and Michael Angelo of Glastonbury, Mary and Paul Dillon of Bray, Ireland, and Paula and Scott Simchock of Burlington. She was a beloved sister to Salvatore Rubera, Michael Rubera, Isabelle Eagleson and Sandra Rubera and three sisters-in-law, Sheila Laing, Lena Rubera and Jennie Rubera.
Lucy received the most joy in her role as a grandmother. She adored, and was adored by her grandchildren, Anna, Laura, Michael, Bryan, Abigail, Emma, Nicholas, Joseph, Claudia, Hannah, Noah and Beatrix. She also cherished several nieces and nephews whom she leaves behind.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Lucy’s life will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 27, 2016 in Our Lady of Peace Church, 370 May Rd. East Hartford, CT 06118. Attendees are asked to meet directly at the church. Interment will follow Mass in Silver Lane Cemetery (Veteran’s Section), Silver Lane, East Hartford. The Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Glastonbury has care of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lucy’s memory to St. Christopher’s Church Memorial Garden, 538 Brewer St. East Hartford, CT 06118.
