Obituary for Woodrow Warren

Col. Woodrow Warren (Ret.), 97, husband of the late Lucille Warren, of Wethersfield, passed away July 11, 2016 in Covenant Village, Cromwell. He was born in Ansonia on February 19, 1919. After graduating from Ansonia High School he began working in a local metal foundry. During 1938, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Hawaii at the onset of World War II, and continued to serve during the Pacific campaign. After the war, he received undergraduate and graduate degrees from Tufts University under the GI bill. Woodrow served in the US Army during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, serving in both combat and non-combat roles, including director of the R.O.T.C program at Northeastern University and Inspector General for American forces in Europe. During his many years of service he was awarded numerous citations and awards including the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. After 30 years of service he retired as a Colonel. Upon retiring from military service he went on to teach Science and Biology at Newington High School for 20 years. Woodrow was a member of the Retired Newington Teachers Bowling League and the Wethersfield Seniors Golf League. He also enjoyed Salt Water Fishing, watching UConn Men’s and Women’s Basketball, attending Town of Wethersfield council meetings, and writing letters to various political leaders on a number of issues.
Woodrow leaves his three sons; Gary Warren and his wife Debi of Laguna Woods, CA., James C. Warren and his wife Kitty of South Windsor and Thomas R. Warren and his wife Sandra of Middletown and five grandchildren, Michelle, Kelly Deva, Jay, Carrie and Jessica. He also leaves his sister Frances ODoy. He was pre-deceased by his sister Sally Schultz.
Friends may call on Friday July 15, 2016 from 4:30 to 6:00 pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd. Wethersfield. Burial with Military Honors will be held Saturday July 16, 2016 at 11:30 in the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT 06457. In lieu of flowers a contribution is suggested to be made to: DAV (Disabled Americans Veterans) Charitable Service Trust, 3725 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, KY 41076.
