Obituary for Teofola Sonnone (Ciofi)

Teofola Sonnone (Ciofi)
Teofola Sonnone, affectionately referred to by friends and relatives as "Dolly," passed away peacefully on April 19 in Mechanicsville, Va. with beloved family members by her side. She was 98. Dolly was a matriarch, a symbol of love, passion and strength for generations of family. She was born in New York City in 1917 and moved to Connecticut at the age of six. Ersiglia Ciofi raised Dolly and her siblings after Dolly's father, Teofolo Ciofi, passed away when Dolly was an infant. Dolly met her husband, Thomas Sonnone, when she was 18. They married in 1937 and enjoyed each other's company daily for 52 years until Thomas passed away in 1989. She placed a small picture of Thomas over her kitchen table after he passed so he would keep her company while she drank her coffee every morning. She was unapologetically honest and persistent, but was forgiving and loved with an unrivaled intensity. Dolly never learned how to drive a car in her 98 years, partially because she had no desire to, but primarily due to the fact there was always someone willing to give her a ride. Friends and family loved to be around Dolly, so doing a favor for her was never viewed as a chore. Dolly is survived by her three sons Stephen Sonnone, Thomas Sonnone and Rich Sonnone, as well as her brother Andrew Scaletti. Her grandchildren - Karen Sonnone McAndrew, Stephen Sonnone, Scott Sonnone and Brendan Sonnone - knew her as Grandma, Gram or Mema. She was the proud great-grandmother of Thomas McAndrew. Dolly is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Friends may call Saturday April 23, 2016 from 9:00 to 11:00 am at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd, Wethersfield, CT 06109. A memorial service celebrating Teofola's life will be held at 11:00 in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery 1 Cottage Grove Rd, Bloomfield, CT 06002.
