Obituary for Mary Agnes Phelan

Mary Agnes Phelan, 94, of Wethersfield, was welcomed into the arms of the Lord, Thursday, December 3, 2015 at her home with her best friend and sister, Helen Marie Phelan, with whom she shared her home, at her side. Mary Agnes was born October 27, 1921 in Waterbury, daughter to the late Frank J. and Lucille (Uriano) Phelan. Prior to her retirement, she was a devoted employee for the State of Connecticut for 40 years as an Adult Probation Officer. After her retirement, Mary Agnes became a volunteer at Foodshare and the Board of Education for the Blind, as well as a Docent at the Noah Webster House, in addition to giving tours at the State Capitol, the Legislative Building and the Soldier’s and Sailor’s Memorial Arch. In respect of her strong Catholic faith, for years Mary Agnes was a daily communicant of Corpus Christi Church. She was devoted to her extended family and loved to keep in touch via letter or just dropping a note to say hello. Mary Agnes’s sister Helen Marie would like to thank the CNAs and nurses who took such good care of her and were so kind, gentle and understanding during her time of need. Friends and relatives may pay their respects Tuesday, December 8, 2015 from 4-6pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Mary Agnes’s life will be Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 10am in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Interment will follow the Mass in the family plot in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery (Shrine of the Apostles Section), 1 Cottage Grove Rd., Bloomfield. The family requests in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made to Dynamic Touch Home Care, 32 Troy St., West Hartford, CT 06119 or the Franciscan Home and Hospice Care, 267 Finch Ave., Meriden, CT 06451.
