William E. "Bill"  Griffith
William E. “Bill” Griffith, 99, of Rocky Hill, formerly of Hartford, beloved husband of the late Nellie (Alexson) Griffith, peacefully passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at his residence in Rocky Hill. Bill was born May 17, 1916 and raised in Hartford, son to the late Michael J. and Mary Agnes (Radigan) Griffith. He attended Immaculate Conception and St. Thomas Seminary H.S. Bill served in the Army National Guard from 1935-38, during this time, he was part of the rescue effort as a result of the 1936 flood; then enlisted into the United States Navy in 1942, serving as a Torpedoman’s Mate and Instructor; he was Honorably Discharged in 1945. Bill was a hard worker all his life. He was employed by the Royal Typewriter, Superior Market, School Bus Driver for the Town of West Hartford from 1945-1951, then Pratt & Whitney, where he was a Machinist, retiring after 29 years of dedicated service. He was a member and Past President of the Irish-American Home Society, in addition to overseeing the Irish Hour radio show on Sunday, hosted by his brother Dr. Thomas Griffith. Bill will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his loving family; a sister and brother Marion Griffith and Dr. Thomas Griffith, both of Rocky Hill; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, especially Ed Sopelak. In addition to his wife Nellie and parents, Bill was predeceased by three brothers, James Griffith and his wife Nell, M. Joseph Griffith, John Griffith and his wife Helen (Bugai); a sister, Noreen Russell and her husband John Russell; and a sister-in-law Mary Ann Griffith, wife of Dr. Thomas Griffith. The family would like to extend its gratitude to Kathy Lundell and her staff, along with the exceptional caregivers at The Lodge. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the family, Friday, July 24, 2015 from 4-6pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Bill’s life will be held Saturday, July 25th at 10am in St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 280 Brook St., Rocky Hill. Attendees are asked to go directly to the church. Entombment will follow the Mass in the Mausoleum in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Rd., Bloomfield.
