Catherine (Kavanaugh) Keane, “Aunt Catherine”, 106 of Vernon, beloved wife of the late Eugene J. Keane passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 2, 2015. Catherine was born in Dunquin Dingle, Co Kerry, Ireland November 24, 1908 daughter of the late John and Johanna (Shea) Kavanaugh. She immigrated to the United States in May 1928. She was employed by the Veeder-Root for many years retiring in 1955 to care for her sister Mary who had MS. Catherine lived in Hartford & West Hartford, before moving to Naubuc Green in Glastonbury in 1983 where she enjoyed her many years there playing cards, bingo and pokeno, as well as celebrating birthday parties and most of all the special friendships she made. Her greatest joy was spending time with family, attending parties, weddings, picnics and other events. Catherine was a great cook, who loved a good meal and an occasional Irish mist. A special thanks to all the residents of Naubuc Green who enabled Catherine to live independently until 2012 when she relocated to Vernon Manor. A special thanks to the staff at Vernon Manor for the care they provided to her. Catherine will be dearly missed by her nieces, nephews, great and great-great, nieces and nephews in England, Ireland and the United States. Among them are Marian Murphy (Francis) of Windsor, James Joy of West Hartford , Helen O’Donnell of Oneonta, NY, Jean Downes (Brendan), Lawrence Murphy (Joan), and a special great great niece Catherine Pauline Downes all of South Windsor. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her seven siblings; John, Lawrence and Daniel Kavanaugh, Margaret Joy, Mary Murphy, Nell Fitzgerald and Noreen Walsh; two nieces, Patricia Murphy Foley, Kathleen Joy McCarthy and her godson John Joy Sr. Catherine was blessed with a long life and we were blessed to have her in our lives. Ar Dheis De go raibh a hanam (May her soul be on the right hand of God). Catherine’s family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday, June 9, 2015 from 9:30-10:30am at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Ave., Glastonbury, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Catherine’s life at 11am in St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury. Interment will follow the Mass in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery (Section X), 1 Cottage Grove Rd., Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Catherine’s name to the ARCHDIOCESE OF HARTFORD (ORTV), 467 Bloomfield Ave Bloomfield CT 06002.
