Obituary for Valle P. Lattanzio Sr.

Valle P. Lattanzio, Sr., 92, of Wethersfield, beloved husband of Mary T. (Clifford) Lattanzio, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Maple View Manor in Rocky Hill. Valle was born June 10, 1922, and raised in Hartford, one of five children to Dominick and Concetta (D’Angelo) Lattanzio. He graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1940, and continued his education by earning a Bachelor’s Degree from Central Connecticut State College (now CCSU). He earned a Master’s Degree and Sixth Year Degree from Columbia University, which led him to become an Educator. Valle’s career began in 1947 at Jones Junior High, then at the Mary Hooker School from 1952-1955. He became a professor at his alma mater, CCSU, until his retirement in 1989, when he was named Associate Professor Emeritus of Teacher Education. He was also employed at Burnside Motors, where he became a legendary salesman affectionately known as “Mr. Valle”. In addition, Valle served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a devoted Communicant of Corpus Christi Church. Along with his wife Mary, Valle will be dearly missed by his loving family, three sons, Valle P. Lattanzio, Jr., of Wethersfield, Stephen C. and Beth Lattanzio of Wethersfield, Clifford P. and Anne Lattanzio of Suffield; a daughter, Maria T. Lattanzio of Winchendon, Massachusetts; three adored grandchildren, Hilary, Parker, and Kerre Lattanzio; as well as one sister, Dolores Lattanzio of South Carolina; and James Hanrahan of Framingham, Massachusetts and other beloved nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Valle was predeceased by his brother, Gino Lattanzio, and two sisters, Norma Hanrahan, and Diane Koloski. The Lattanzio family would like to express their deep appreciation to former student Cindy Lindenberger, whose visits were a constant source of inspiration. Finally, Valle’s family would like to acknowledge with gratitude the healthcare professionals at Maple View Manor, especially nurses Linda and Hector, Deacon Seth English, and Eucharistic Ministers from Saint James Parish, Rocky Hill. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the Lattanzio family on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, 5-7PM, at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield. There will be a private funeral procession from Farley-Sullivan with a mass of Christian Burial celebrating Valle’s life at 10AM on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield (All attendees are asked to go directly to the church). Interment will follow in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery (Section W), 1 Cottage Grove Road, Bloomfield. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Valle’s name to Corpus Christi School, 581 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield, or to the Valle P. Lattanzio, Sr. Scholarship Fund at Central Connecticut State University, 1615 Stanley Street, New Britain, Connecticut, 06050.
