Obituary for Louise Sienkiewicz (Crocetta)

Louise Sienkiewicz (Crocetta)
Louise C. Sienkiewicz reached her final destination on Monday, July 7, 2014 passing into the loving embrac of her God, her adoring husband of 41 years and her firstborn, Andrea Gallo, who predeceased her just 11 short weeks ago on April 18, 2014. Louise Crocetta was born on January 15, 1931 to Clorinda and Giuseppe Crocetta in Cambridge, MA. In her young adulthood, she found her passion in worldwide travel. It was at the reservation desk of Eastern Airlines at Logan Airport that she would meet the love of her life, Conrad A. Sienkiewicz, who worked at BOAC. They married on June 8, 1958 and travelled together, exploring Japan, London and Germany, while making repeat trips to Italy, Hawaii and their favorite island of Antigua. Along the way they had 3 children, affectionately known as A, B and C. In 1970, Conrad's job with BOAC/British Airways relocated to JFK Airport, and the family settled in Farmingdale NY, where they would live for 24 years. After the birth of Louise and Conrad's first grandchild, the couple pulled up stakes and retired to Old Wethersfield to be closer to the children and their growing families. In both Farmingdale and Old Wethersfield, Louise enjoyed very active memberships in the Historical Society. In a 40 year period, Louise was a very successful travel agent, working most recently at Welcome Aboard Travel in Wethersfield before her full retirement. When Conrad's wanderlust ebbed, Louise continued to travel, seeing Russia, Israel and Poland, once spending an entire winter in Sicily. She was a member of the Social Action Club at Corpus Christi Church in Wethersield. She enjoyed a sisterhood of quilters in Wethersfield, whose friendships endured many years. In 1999, Conrad and Louise moved to Farmington, CT, where Louise remained active until a Parkinson's diagnosis started to slow her down. Another move would bring her to Hamilton Heights in West Hartford, where she would meet a most loving caregiver, Christy Drass. When it was clear that Louise needed more acute care, she moved one last time to Valerie Manor, in Torrington. Under the magnificent care of such able nurses, Louise kept her mind sharp, despite physical frailty. Always current on world affairs, she was quick to offer her opinion. Yes, priests should marry. No, women do not belong at the pulpit. Courtroom drama was an avid pastime. Louise was a frequent visitor to area courts, just to watch the trials. When she was expecting baby Conrad in 1966, her husband had to demand that she stop attending the trial for the Boston Strangler, due to its graphic testimony. When Louise fulfilled her jury duty obligations to CT, she wrote a note requesting to be kept in the pool. The responding judge wrote back to her, to let her know that Louise's letter was a first, and yes, she could come back whenever she wanted! Louise lived her life to the fullest, and even as her health declined, she declared, "I'm in pretty good shape, considering the shape I'm in!" Louise is survived by her brothers Michael (Frances) Crocetta of West Newton, MA, Joseph (Nancy) Crocetta of Silver Spring, MD, her daughter, Brenda (Joe) Kestenbaum of West Hartford, CT and Conrad (Lydia Babbitt) Sienkiewicz of Torrington, CT. She delighted in the company of her 3 grandchildren, Joshua Kestenbaum, Nina Kestenbaum and Caroline Sienkiewicz, as well as Josh's dear girlfriend, Olivia Porada. She is also survived by 7 adoring nieces and nephews, their spouses and all of their children. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Conrad, her sister, Concetta (Pat) Presepe, and her daughter, Andrea Gallo. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday July 10, 2014 at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver RD. Wethersfield, CT 06109. The funeral will be held Friday July 11, 2014 at 9:15 am at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Louiseā€™s life at 10:00 am in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Hwy, Wethersfield, CT 06109. Burial will be in Village Cemetery, Marsh St. Wethersfield. To extend online condolences, share a story or light a memorial candle, please visit Farleysullivan.com.
