ZAWISZA, John Joseph John Joseph Zawisza, 87 of Glastonbury, beloved husband of the late Elsie (Stec) Zawisza, passed away Saturday (December 19, 2009) at Watersedge in Middletown. He was born in Middletown and was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Grzech) Zawisza. John was a Veteran of World War II, serving for six years with the US Navy. John was on several flight submarine patrols in the Caribbean, Panama and Galapagos Islands during World War II. He graduated from Middletown State Trade School (Vinal Tech) before going into the military. John was a Communicant of St. Paul Church serving as an usher for many years and was a charter member of the St. Paul Men's Club and Bingo Committee and a member of the American Legion. He was an Independent Contractor and worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft prior to working many years for the Glastonbury School System in the Maintenance Dept. He also was a self employed Locksmith for many years. John loved to golf and play baseball and was an avid Red Sox Fan. He leaves his brothers, Frank Zawisa of Cromwell, Joseph J. Zawisza of Middletown, Walter Zawisa of Higganum and Henry Zawisza of Centerbrook, his sisters Regina Ortisi of Portland and Patricia McGowen of Sterling, VA., several sisters in law, brothers in law, nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents he was predeceased by his brothers Stanley and Cazimer and sisters, Anna Kendreck, Catherine Kurek and Agnes Gadzinski. John's family wishes to express their gratitude to Geraldine Lyons and his niece MaryJo Logan for their dedicated care and compassion to John. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2009, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury. Friends and relatives may call on the family Wednesday morning from 9-10 a.m. in St Paul Church. Burial will follow in Neipsic Cemetery, Neipsic Rd. Glastonbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Middlesex Memorial Hospital , Weiss Hospice Unit, c/o the Dept of Philanthropy, 28 Crescent St. Middletown, CT 06457 or St. Mary's School, 79 South Main St., Middletown, CT 06457.
