Obituary for Barbara P. Wise (Peterson)

Barbara Ann Wise 79, of Wethersfield, beloved wife of Thomas A. Wise passed away peacefully August 30, 2019 at home in the comfort of her family. Born May 30, 1940 in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Gunhilde Peterson. Barbara was raised in the South End of Hartford. Her family later moved to Bloomfield where she graduated from Bloomfield High School Class of 1958. She and Tom were married November 5, 1960 in Wethersfield where they built their life together and raised their family for over 60 years.
Barbara spent her early working days at The Travelers Insurance Company and in her later years at the American Heart Association. Her job at the Corpus Christi After School Program was one she enjoyed tremendously and valued the connections she made with all of the students. She lived a simple life of caring for her family and spending time with friends. She spent over 40 years of summers cruising the waters of Long Island Sound with her family. The greatest joy of her life was the time she spent with her grandchildren who will carry fond memories of their times together. Barbara was the most kind and gentle soul with a deep faith in God, a devout Catholic who was a dedicated parishioner of Corpus Christi and Incarnation Parishes.
Barb will be dearly missed by her loving and dedicated Husband of 59 Years Tom; her two sons; Jeffrey and wife Jenifer of Cromwell, Timothy and wife Lisa of Wethersfield; sister Deborah Marshall and husband, Thomas of Columbia, South Carolina; sister-in-law, Marilyn Zieger and husband Edward, of New Britain; sisters-in-law, Gayle Peterson of Middletown, Karen Wise of Trumbull; adored grandmother to Jack, Matthew, and Katie, as well as loving aunt to many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. Barbara is predeceased by her brother, Robert Peterson of Middletown, sister-in-law, Joan W. Winton of Wethersfield, and brother-in-law, Harold Wise of Trumbull. All of whom she loved and touched deeply. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Hartford Healthcare Hospice and to Krystyna Winarz for the devoted care she gave during Barbara’s last several years.
Friends may call Friday September 6, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Barbara’s life will be held Saturday September 7, 2019 at 10:00 am in the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hartford Healthcare at Home Hospice Care, 1290 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield, CT 06109.
