Obituary

Joseph J. “Joe” Dadona, 97, of Glastonbury, formerly of East Hartford, peacefully passed away into the arms of God, Tuesday, July 23, 2019. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 38 years, Angelie (Pires) Dadona. Joseph was born October 26, 1921 in New York City to the late Frank and Julia (Jacomini) Dadona. He lived most of his life in South Glastonbury, where he was a graduate of The Hopewell School. As a young man, he was an accomplished horseman and talented athlete. He played for Matson Mills, on the Glastonbury Town League Baseball Team for many seasons.
Joseph served our country in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II and came ashore at St. Lo during the D-Day invasion. He fought bravely in France, Germany and at the Battle of the Bulge.
Joe was a well-respected heavy equipment excavator for McClain Construction. LLC and was instrumental in carving out many residential roads and housing developments throughout Glastonbury, Hebron, East Hartford, Manchester, Portland and East Hampton from the 1940’s into the 1980’s.
Joseph was a very humble and spiritual man who prayed often and ardently for everyone. He held a lifelong special devotion to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal.
Joseph is survived by a daughter Deborah Dadona of Brattleboro, VT; a sister Jean Gasparini of Glastonbury; a step son Peter Pires (Christine), of Sunshine, AZ; a step daughter Barbara Yoo (William), of Yarmouth Port, MA; six grandchildren, Peter Pires Jr. (Jayme) of Tolland, Paul Pires, Sr. (Allison) of Tolland, Nicole Parmalee (Scott) of Enfield, Christopher Pires of Avondale, AZ, Kelly Haynes-Meyers (Andy) of Sharon, MA and Matthew Yoo (Jeanette) of Rochester, MA; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Joe was predeceased by his brother Frank Dadona and his four sisters, Maria DiMartini, Eleanor Bronzi, Marie Calamari and Carmel Blacha.
The family would like to thank Marion Vermont, Christine Gagne and Cara Santoro for their wonderful support and loving care of Joseph over many years. We are grateful to the very caring staff at Glastonbury Health Center, especially Flodene Blissette, Sue Stewart, Ben Njuguna, Tamara Pritchett, Pam Edwards, Jamie Burton, Carlene Hall, Shay Balaji, Melissa Coyne, Nysheka Snell, Laverne Stewart, Denise Ramikisson-Wilson and Pam Howe. The family also wishes to thank the wonderful nurses and excellent staff, including especially the Hospice Care Unit, at St. Francis Hospital, who tenderly cared for Joseph.
Relatives and friends may call on the family, Sunday, July 28, 2019 from 2-4 pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Ave., Glastonbury. A Funeral Mass celebrating Joseph’s life will be held Monday, July 29th at 10 am in St. Paul Church of the Community of Ss. Isadore and Maria, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury. Interment will follow the Mass in St. Augustine Cemetery, Hopewell Rd., South Glastonbury. Oh my dear, dear friend Debbie. I wish I could be there. Your dad was a dear, sweet man. I remember his plowing our little road in the winter. I remember him letting us play in his little "man cave". I am holding you and the family in my heart. Love, Nancy

Uncle Joe was such a kind, warm, and generous man. We are thankful for having known him, and thankful for the years where he helped in the ongoing care for Pop-Pop (Quintino Pergiovanni, "Uncle Kiki") and kept a watchful eye on Nonna (Louise Pergiovanni, "Aunt PeeWee"). He helped the family immeasurably and was a joy to be around. It is sad to see him go, but we know that he is now free of any pain and reunited with Aunt Angie. God bless you, Uncle Joe! We love you - Andrew, Myra, and little Celia Pergiovanni, 7/25/2019
