Obituary for John F. Hogan Jr.

John F. Hogan passed away peacefully on July 17, 2019 at the age of 91. Born on April 3, 1928, John was a lifelong resident of the Hartford area. He graduated from Weaver High School where he played football, served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a Firefighter for the City of Hartford from 1950 through 1984.
John loved animals and was particularly fond of a succession of Belgian Shepherds, which he could often be seen walking around Wethersfield, where he lived for more than forty years. He was also an avid sports fan with especially strong loyalty to the Hartford Whalers and Boston Red Sox. A devoted Red Sox fan since the age of six, he was delighted when those decades of loyalty were rewarded with four World Championships since 2004. His 85 years of following the Red Sox gave him an encyclopedic knowledge of the team’s history and lore which he gladly shared with all.
A devout Catholic and a parishioner of Corpus Christi Church in Wethersfield CT, he supported a number of charitable endeavors. A quiet but loving and caring man, his equanimity was always a source of strength to family and friends.
John is survived by his sister Mary Hogan.
Friends may call on Tuesday July 23, 2019 from 9:00 to 10:00 am in the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield.
