Obituary for William J. "Bill" Faber
William J. “Bill” Faber, lifelong Glastonbury resident, beloved husband of 68 years to Constance B. “Connie” (Dane) Faber, peacefully passed away at home in the early morning hours, Tuesday, May 28, 2019, with his family by his side. Bill was the son of the late John and Katherine (Drost) Faber. Along with his devoted wife Connie, he will be deeply missed and remembered by his daughter Cheryl Flynn of Wethersfield; three adored grandchildren, Tyler Flynn of Wethersfield, Brandon and Collin Faber, both in Thousand Oaks, CA; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his son, Jeffrey; three brothers, Henry, Charles and John; two sisters, Mary Jones and Helen Faber; a sister-in-law Maureen (Dane) Perry.
Out of 98 years in Glastonbury, Bill spent three years away from Glastonbury while serving our country during World War II overseas in China, Burma, and India. Bill attained the rank of Sergeant. When he was Honorably Discharged from the military, Bill earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Arnold College, and continued his education, earning his Master’s Degree from UConn.
He was a very dedicated and a hard-working person. He was an employee of the Glastonbury School System for 30 plus years, as a physical education teacher, a Coach of Sports, Vice Principal of Glastonbury High School, and finally the Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent of Schools. After his retirement from the School System, Bill owned a Seal Coat business along with being a State of CT Judicial Marshal.
Bill devoted many hours of his time to Community service. Not only was he a Communicant of St. Paul’s Church, Glastonbury, he was a Church Council Trustee for 18 years, Chairman of the Education Committee, Church Usher for many years and a member of the St. Paul Men’s Club.
In the Political arena, Bill was a Selectman on the Town Council, a member of the Board of Appeals and the Town Safety Commission. He was the recipient of the Democrat of the Year Award in 1972. In addition, he was a member of the American Legion Post 56 for over 50 years, a past Adjutant and Chairman of Nutmeg Boys State for many years, as well as being on the Veteran’s Service Commission.
Bill was a life member and Past President of the CT Soccer Officials, co-founder and first President of the Clayton House on Williams Street, and a Board of Director of Hale Farms Condo Association for over 6 years. He was distinctively honored by the Jaycees and the American Legion for Community Service.
Friends and relatives may pay their respects to Bill and the Faber family, Friday, May 31, 2019 from 4-7 pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home 34 BEAVER RD. WETHERSFIELD. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Bill’s life, will be Saturday, June 1st at 11 am in the Community of Ss. Isadore and Maria Parish at St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury.
