Obituary for Marie Moran (Colaneri)

Marie (Colaneri) Moran, 100, wife of the late Robert E. Moran, of Enfield, formerly of Hartford and West Hartford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday May 14, 2019 at her home after a very brief illness. Marie was born on May 28, 1918 in Hartford Hospital, daughter of the late Camillo and Claudina Colaneri. Growing up on Retreat Avenue, she graduated from Bulkeley High School, Class of 1937 and went on to McKeown’s Business College which led to her employment at the National Fire Life Insurance Company where she was an Executive Secretary. As a young woman growing up in Hartford, Marie loved spending time downtown at the various department stores and movie theaters. During her early years, she spent time with her family at their cottage at Buena Vista in West Hartford and vacationed at Cornfield Point in Old Saybrook. Marie left her career to marry Bob on May 28,1955 and raise her family. During this time, after her father’s passing, she was involved with overseeing her family’s real estate properties. Marie was also active in the Connecticut Republican Party and oversaw the polling places in the South End of Hartford during the 1960’s. She and Bob moved to West Hartford where they lived for many years, finally moving to Enfield in their later years to be closer to their daughter and her family. Marie loved gardening and was an avid baker, always making holiday cookies and cakes, which she continued to do with her grandsons well into her 90’s.
Marie will be greatly missed by her daughter Lisa Moran Franklin and her husband Julian Franklin, her grandsons Zachary M. and Evan R. Franklin, whom brought great joy to Marie. Besides her husband of 64 years, she was predeceased by her sister Elvira G. Colaneri and her sister-in-law Isabelle Moran Gillin. Marie’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her part-time personal care aides, Carol Niemann, Theresa Smith and especially Anita Malecki, who went above and beyond in Marie’s final weeks, as well as Dr. and Mrs. Patrick McDermott for their care and compassion.
At Marie’s request, there are no calling hours and a private burial will take place in Park Lawn Cemetery, Bennington, VT. A Celebration of Marie’s life will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 12:00 PM in The Tavern at Keney Park, 171 Windsor Avenue, Windsor. Memorial donations in Marie’s name may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105. The Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Wethersfield has care of the arrangements. May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
The rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
