Dear Mark , Both Nancy and I were saddened to hear of the passing of your Mom. Your written tribute to her as presented in the Courant was just wonderful and captured the true essence of the reserved and truly kind lady from Baltimore who bravely came to Connecticut. Her reward for that giant step, of course, was to find an equally kind and nurturing soul mate and husband in your Dad. Great memories of Aunt Pauline and Uncle Steve in Wethersfield of many years ago remain reasonably intact as I can recall them wholly immersed in raising their family, happily with true affection. The memories of Aunt Pauline administering to the needs of all, cooking up something for her very young sons and guests - never complaining - as she pursued her unending tasks in the sometimes chaotic environment of 646 Nott Street. Vivid remembrances of the latter remain with me, that of Gramp Ucich, with the perpetual cigarette seemingly glued to his face , the multitude of children scampering around under the watchful eyes of Aunt Pauline's rather large German Shepard, Arno, while Uncle Steve regaled all with his best rendition of " If you knew Susie " on his ukulele. Chaos to be sure, but all in a loving environment creating times not to be forgotten. Your Mom handled all this, and much more over the years with aplomb, patience and great class. Her unbridled caring and love for all of her family was clear for all to see and appreciate. I pray that your Mom, and your wonderful Dad, are at peace and together for all eternity. Please accept our sincere condolences to you and the entire Ucich family in the loss of your beloved Mom. With affection, Bud and Nancy Usich

RIP Pauline Ucich. One of the kindest and most gentle souls I have ever known. Always a smile. Always a kind word, I remember fondly, times spent at the Ucich home on Nott St. The vegetable garden in the back yard. The wood pile in the front. Smoke billowing out the chimney in the winter, from one of Mr. Ucich's custom made premier stoves. The dogs scampering. The birds chirping. The laughter in the hallways, the love throughout. It was a unique household, Pauline and Steve were unique and wonderful people. I was enriched and enjoyed in knowing them. Pauline and Steve together again forever. Deepest condolences to Mark. Sam, Stephen, Christine and their extended families. Remember the good times, and, yes Stephen, hold someone you care about extra tight tonight and tell them you love them. With much love, John "Muzzy" Massaro.

I taught across the hall from your dad, Steve, at HPHS for many years. Sadly, I was out of state at the time that he passed, so wasn't able to express condolences to you. He was a wonderful man and ALWAYS spoke so highly of your mom. I did have a chance to meet your mom at one time, and we easily "clicked" because of our shared love for animals. You were so very fortunate to grow up in a home with such loving, wonderful parents, which I'm sure you already know. Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of both Steve and Pauline.
