Print
Catherine (Calabretta) Eafano, of Manchester, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 17, 1930 in Hartford, Catherine was the daughter of the late Frank and Grace (Fusaro) Calabretta. She is survived by her husband, Anthony Eafano of over 62 years. Catherine grew up in Wethersfield and Old Saybrook. As a loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, Catherine had great passion for and was devoted to her family. She was extremely involved in school activities, including the PTA and attended sporting and theatre events for her children and later, her grandchildren. Catherine loved traveling to Europe with her husband and family. She enjoyed the history, beauty, art and fashion. Her extended stays with Anthony created many fond and sometimes humorous memories. She also treasured trips to Georgia and spending time with her grandchildren as they grew. As a young woman, Catherine enjoyed shopping in New York City, taking family trips and spending her summers at the family home in Old Saybrook. Catherine was an accomplished professional. She was employed by Phoenix Mutual as an insurance underwriter. She also assisted her father and brothers in the family construction investment business.
Catherine leaves behind her daughter Elaine (Eafano) Mayo and fiancé Joseph Salmeri of Wethersfield, her son Steven Eafano and his wife, Kimberly (Bertrand) Eafano and their children Luke and Olivia, of Lawrenceville, Georgia. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Catherine was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters. The family would like to extend special thanks to the Visiting Nurse Association for their special care for making Catherine’s final days as peaceful and comfortable as possible. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook Street, Rocky Hill, CT. Catherine had great courage and was devoted to her family. She was a special wife, mother and grandmother. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday at 11a.m. at Christ the King Parish, Wethersfield. Burial will follow at Village Cemetery, Marsh Street Wethersfield. There are no calling hours.
