Obituary for George A. Shea

George A. Shea, 86, of Wethersfield, peacefully passed away Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Hartford Hospital with his family by his side. George was born October 25, 1932 in Buffalo, NY, son of the late George and Bertha (Titus) Shea. The family moved to Hartford, where George attended Hartford Schools, graduating from Bulkeley High School, Class of 1951. He continued his education at UCONN until entering the military. He served in the United States Army in the Presidential Honor Guard, at Arlington National Cemetery during the Korean Conflict.
George worked construction for many years as an ironworker, who worked on the famous Phoenix “Boat” Building in downtown Hartford.
He wrote two books, of which he was very proud, “Libbie Custer is free” and “America’s Patriotic Poems and Prose”. He had a great love of animals, especially dogs, which he had his entire life.
George will be deeply missed and remembered by his loving family, his two sisters, Arlene Shea of Wethersfield and Mary Ann Bezdelovs of Rocky Hill; nieces and nephews, Kathy Cavallero (Gavie), Ted Stoneburner, Gary Gipstein (Karen), Laurie Marotto (Tom), John Bezdelovs, Tracey Barlow (Cinqué) and Dan Bezdelovs (Kim), as well as many great nieces and nephews and dear friends.
Friends and relatives may pay their respects on Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 9:00 – 10:00am at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30am in Corpus Christi Church of Christ the King Parish, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Interment (with full military honors) will follow the Mass in St. Catherine Cemetery, Rye St., Broad Brook. The family requests in lieu of flowers and that memorial donations be made in George’s name to The CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111.
