Obituary for Olga Chimchak (Lubska)

Olga (Lubska) Chimchak, 92, wife of the late Wasyl Chimchak, of Glastonbury, passed away October 30, 2018 in Hartford Hospital. She was born in Ukraine on November 6, 1925. Olga was educated, achieving the equivalent of an Associate Degree in Economics in Ukraine and later took Journalism classes in Germany. During World War II, she and her family were displaced persons and taken to a work camp in Nuremburg. After WW II she met and married Wasyl in Germany. After moving to Belgium, where their daughter was born, the family came to America in 1957, settling in Glastonbury where they spent their lives. Olga was a Machine Assembler at numerous places both here and in Europe and later became an Environmental Specialist at the Institute of Living. She was very active in the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church community. Olga was a published Ukrainian poet and had friends in the Ukrainian Artist circles all over the world. Education was the most important thing to her. She was able to support her daughter achieve her degrees.
Olga leaves her daughter Elisheva Basha of Glastonbury and her granddaughter Freya Taylor of NY. Friends may call on Saturday November 3, 2018 from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Ave., Glastonbury. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, 1458 New London Turnpike, Glastonbury.
