Lucille (McCarthy) Bellizzi, 90, of Wethersfield and Fairfield, formerly of Hartford, loving wife of the late Dr. Joseph Bellizzi, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, October 21, 2018, at home with her family by her side. Lucille was born November 27, 1927, in Lynn, MA, and raised in East Braintree, MA. She was the daughter of the late Daniel and Lucy (Hannon) McCarthy. Following in her mother’s and sister’s footsteps, she studied nursing at St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing in New York City. After graduation, she returned to Boston and worked at Tufts New England Medical Center, where she met Joe. After their wedding, they moved to Hartford’s West End where they raised their five daughters. Lucille returned to school and earned her Master’s Degree in Health Education from the University of Hartford. She worked in the Hartford Public School System for over 25 years before retiring in her mid 70 ‘s.
A devout Catholic, Lucille was very involved in the Church as a communicant of The Cathedral of St. Joseph where she also served as a Eucharistic Minister, member of the Parish Council, as well as a volunteer at the Food Pantry. Lucille’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. When she became unable to attend daily Mass, she faithfully watched the 10:00 Mass on television, which was always an important part of her day.
Lucille will be dearly missed and forever remembered by her five daughters and their spouses, Mary and Michael Halloran, Jane and Tim Brockway, all of West Hartford, Peg and Steve Prato of Yarmouth, Maine, Ann and Tony Ragazzi of Wethersfield and Kate and Pat McGuinness of Fairfield; eleven adored grandchildren, Kate Halloran and her husband, Seth Orkand, Sean Halloran, Jack Prato, Colin Prato, Nick Prato, Michael Ragazzi, Anthony Ragazzi, Christopher Ragazzi, Patrick McGuinness and fiancé Kaitlyn Baranowski, Conor McGuinness, and Colleen McGuinness; three cherished great grandchildren, Noa, Sarah and Gabriel; her cousin Sister Marie John of Philadelphia, PA, sisters-in-law Grace Canarie and Jane Fischetti and brother-in-law Frank Bellizzi, as well as many nieces and nephews. Along with her husband and parents, Lucille was predeceased by her sister Dorothy McCarthy.
Lucille’s family would like to thank their wonderful nurse, Holly, who provided care and support for all of them throughout the past two years. They would also like to thank Sasha and Camille (Wethersfield), Ashley, Symphony and Rhadika (Fairfield) for their compassionate care of Lucille.
Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the family Friday, October 26, 2018, from 6-8 pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield.
