Obituary for Richard Brian Mooney

It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of our brother Rick on September 25, 2018. He arrived in the world on February 25, 1950, the third child of the late Alan and June (O'Connor) Mooney. Rick graduated from Wethersfield High School, class of 1968 (with the help of Cindy Hughes). He attended St Francis College (68-70), then enlisted into the U.S Marines. He proudly served his country (70-72) in Vietnam, however, he was never able to escape to the demons of war. He worked at the Millstone Nuclear Power Plant for several years. He was a generous soul, with a heart of gold who always fought for the underdog and underprivileged. He gave away all that he had to charity, friends, strangers or anyone in need. Rick was a gifted athlete and one tough kid. Anyone that knew him agreed it was always best to be on Rick's "good side". He loved Notre Dame football and Bassett hounds. Our family would like to thank Tommy Sharpe, Jack Dolan, Vinny Salemi, and Ron Dobmier for their unending support and concern for Rick's well-being. Special thanks to the staff on Bliss 10 ICU for the compassionate care you gave Rick during his final hours. As sad as we are, we can all rest knowing Rick is finally at peace. Just imagine the gleam in his eyes when he was reunited with Remington, his Bassett Hound. Semper Fi. Rick is survived by his sister, Pamela Mooney of Wethersfield, brothers Jon Mooney of Wethersfield, Robert Mooney of Wethersfield, and Alan and Diana of Southington, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Sunday September 30, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. Burial will follow in the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN, 38105.
