Obituary for Zofia Ciurylo (Polanska)

Zofia (Polanska) Ciurylo, 95, of Wethersfield, beloved wife to the late Wasyl Ciurylo, peacefully passed away Monday, March 19, 2018. Zofia was born June 27, 1922 and raised in Ulucz, Poland, daughter to the late Mikolaj and Pelagia (Szczurko) Polansky. She immigrated to America in 1965 and resided in Hartford. Prior to her retirement Zofia was employed at the Nielsen Tool & Die Co. for 25 years. Zofia’s passions included cooking, baking her Easter Babkas (which looked like sunshine on the table), sewing, crisscross embroidery and knitting. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She embraced all, adults and children alike and was a very loving, caring person.
Zofia will be deeply missed and remembered by her loving family, a son Bohdan Ciurylo and his wife Beverly, of Columbia; three daughters, Aleksandra Kudyba and her husband Zygmunt, of Wethersfield, Betty LaMonica of Newington and Sophie Slate of Wethersfield; nine adored grandchildren Elizabeth Mirek and her husband Maciek, of Salem, NH, William Ciurylo of Kennebunk, ME, Michael Ciurylo of Dearborn, MI, John Ciurylo of Columbia, Kristi LaMonica and her husband Mark Blicharz of Troy, NY, Christopher Slate of Newington, Nicholas Papuga of Holiday, FL, Robert Kudyba and his wife Michelle, of New York, NY and Richard Kudyba and his wife Ella, of Rocky Hill; as well as her cherished great granddaughter Fia Kudyba of New York, NY. In addition to her parents and husband, Zofia was predeceased by two daughters, Maria Ciurylo and Donna Papuga; a sister Paulina Polanska; and a brother Nicholas Polansky. The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the Staff of the Second Floor at Maple View Manor for the compassionate care they provided Zofia during her stay there.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 11am in St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 135 Wethersfield Ave., Hartford (Attendees are asked to go directly to the church). Interment will follow the Liturgy in St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, New London Tpke, Glastonbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, CT Chapter, 200 Executive Boulevard, Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489.
