Obituary for Rosalie K. Von Achen (Pequigney)

After a life well lived, Rosalie Katherine Von Achen, 99, of Wethersfield, passed away March 15, 2018, at her daughter’s home on Lake Dunmore in Vermont. Rosalie resided at Cedar Mountain Commons in Newington for the past 5 years. She was born in NYC on October 17, 1918 to Francis and Edith (Kienz) Pequigney. On January 4, 1947 , she married the love of her life Joseph Von Achen. After residing briefly in New York and New Jersey, they welcomed 2 daughters and settled in Wethersfield in 1954, adding a son. Rosalie and Joe became involved members of the community and established a large circle of friends. She was a long time communicant of Corpus Christi Parish and active in their Women’s Club and Bowling League. She was also President of the Elm Tree Women’s Club. Joe and Rosalie were charter members of Pine Acres Swim Club and spent many happy years with friends in the Wethersfield Community Players. After Joe’s death in 1969, Rosalie went to work for the State of Connecticut, first in the Labor Department and then DMV retiring in 1985. Rosalie was a long time volunteer giving her time to her children’s activities, as well as, Cedar Crest Hospital. In retirement, she was a docent for the Wethersfield Historical Society and led tours at the State Capitol for the League of Women Voters. A fearless adventurer, she was a world traveler and took up golf and skiing later in life. Rosalie is survived by her son Kurt and his wife Carol of Berlin, CT, daughters Frances Davis of Pittsford , VT and Joan Schumann and her husband Jeffrey. Also surviving are her grandchildren Brian Mulcahy, Courtney Mulcahy, Justin and his wife Lauren Davis, Jared Schumann, Lindsay Schumann and her husband Michael Gribauskas, Natalie Von Achen, and Christopher Von Achen. She also leaves 3 great granddaughters and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and Joe, she was predeceased by her brother Frank Pequigney, and granddaughter Angela Von Achen. A mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 10:00AM at Christ the King Parish, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Burial will be private.
