Obituary for Eugenia J. Guzek (Miller)
Eugenia J. (Miller) Guzek, 90, of Wethersfield passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Hartford Hospital. Born December 22, 1927 in Biecz, Poland, she was the daughter of Antoni Miller and Jozefa (Tomalska) Miller. Edward Guzek, her beloved husband of 63 years, died on July 9, 2015.
In 1959 Eugenia and children travelled to the U.S. to reunite with Edward who had left Poland two years earlier to find better economic opportunities. They settled in Hartford and Wethersfield where they raised their family. Eugenia was a thoughtful, loving and devoted wife and mother, a superb cook and baker, and grew the biggest, juiciest tomatoes in her garden. Whenever she needed one of her children to visit, all she had to do was to offer to prepare their favorite Polish dish to lure them home.
Employed by the State of CT Dept. of Transportation for many years, she retired in 1989. She was also a longtime communicant of SS. Cyril & Methodius Church and a member of the Golden Seniors Club.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Guzek McDermid of Wethersfield, Irene B. Guzek of East Hartford, son Wesley Guzek and wife Karin of Old Saybrook, as well as son Stan Guzek and wife Trish Bowen of West Hartford. Survivors in Poland include a sister Krystyna Tybor, sister-in-law Wanda Wojcik, many nieces, especially Janina Starzyk as well as many grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters in Poland, The family would like to extend their gratitude for the wonderful care and support provided by the nursing staff of Jefferson House (Morgan wing), as well as the Bliss 10 Cardiac ICU and Conklin 2 nursing unit at Hartford Hospital.
Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the Guzek family Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 9:15 – 10:15am at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Eugenia’s life will be at 11am, Saturday morning in SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, 63 Popieluszko Court, Hartford. Interment will follow the Mass in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery (Section M-Ext.), 1 Cottage Grove Rd., Bloomfield. The Guzek family requests memorial donations in Eugenia's name to SS.
