Obituary for Raymond E. "Ray" Lavoie

Raymond E. “Ray” Lavoie, 85, of East Hartford, loving husband of over 65 years to Jean (Bemer) Lavoie, peacefully passed away Thursday, December 21, 2017 in Hartford Hospital. Ray was born January 25, 1932 and raised in Hartford, one of three boys to the late Eugene and Bertha (Gagnon) Lavoie. He attended and graduated from Ellsworth High School, South Windsor and Hartford Regional Technical School, after which he served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. A hardworking man and prominent builder in East Hartford, Ray founded R E Lavoie Builders over 50 years ago. The company was known for building motels, commercial buildings, homes and remodeling work. He built the homes for his three children as well. Ray was a dedicated husband, father and friend who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his wife Jean; two sons, Thomas Lavoie and his wife Mary, of South Windsor, Matthew Lavoie of Glastonbury; a daughter, Bonnie Ewing and her husband Jeffrey, of Manchester; a brother Conrad Lavoie of South Windsor; five adored grandchildren, Katie Mazzie and her husband Shaun, Christine Fisher, Timothy Lavoie and Brian and Justin Ewing; as well as four cherished great grandchildren, Alyssa and Evan Mazzie, Landon and Colton Fisher and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, Ray was predeceased by a brother, Gerard Lavoie. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the Lavoie family Wednesday, December 27, 2017 from 10-11am at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Ave., Glastonbury, with a service of remembrance at 11am in the funeral home. Interment will follow with full military honors in Silver Lane Cemetery (Veterans’ Section), East Hartford.
