Obituary for Anthony Joseph "Tony" Santangelo

Anthony Joseph “Tony” Santangelo peacefully passed away November 29, 2017 at age 88 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Carmela F. “Millie” (Fontana) Santangelo. He is also survived by his son Anthony Jr. and his wife, Dorothy Renaghan, of Boston, MA, his daughter, Patti-Ann Barry and her husband, Kevin, of Rocky Hill and his three loving grandchildren: Jenna (Barry) Stebbins and her husband William of Portland, Colin Santangelo of Cambridge, MA, and Jillian Barry and her husband Matthew Hock of Wethersfield. He is also survived by his sister Santina Lombardo of Newington, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Ann and Paul Mazzarella of Wethersfield, his sister-in-law Doris Santangelo of Cromwell and his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Mark Santangelo and his brother, Salvatore Santangelo. Tony was born on December 5, 1928 in Hartford, the son of Joseph and Teresa (Tarascio) Santangelo. His parents were the founders of Hartford Club Beverage Company, a soda business that Tony went on to co-own with his siblings and which he managed and operated for 40 years. When he retired from Hartford Club, he became a Claims Analyst at Travelers Insurance Company and then, in his ‘second’ retirement, he became a driver for Console’s Travel-Rite Limousine. Tony was a leader in the St. Augustine Boys’ Brigade, a member of the South Catholic High School Men’s Club and served as an Usher for his parish church, the Church of the Incarnation. He enjoyed playing golf, tennis and Setback and was an avid fan of the Yankees, Giants and the PGA. His family, and especially his grandchildren, were a special delight to him always. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved. Thee family acknowledges the many kindnesses and care he received from his medical caregivers, especially the compassion shown to him in his final days while a patient in the Hartford Hospital ICU. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Tony’s life will be held Monday, December 4, 2017 at 11:30am in The Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. Interment will be Private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Tony’s funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd. Wethersfield. The family requests that memorial donations be made to The Office of Radio and Television, 15 Peach Orchard Road, Prospect, Connecticut 06712-1052 or a charity of the donor’s choice in lieu of flowers.
