Obituary for Zofia Konopka (Madrak)

Zofia (Madrak) Konopka, 78, of Hartford, beloved wife of Stanislaw Konopka, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Lipniki, Poland, daughter of the late Leopold and Stefania (Dabrowska) Madrak, immigrated to America with her husband and family in 1965.
A devoted mother, Zofia will be deeply missed by her children; son, Miroslaw Konopka, daughters Krystyna Gallogly (Nicholas), Eva Konopka and Barbara Rudini (David). Her family was the joy of her life, and she was the beloved Babcia to Alex, Cecilia, Tommy and Evan Gallogly, Samantha, Alexandra, Kate and Michael Rudini; and a loving aunt to Chris Prusaczyk, Dorothy Mehta and Stephania Madrak. She was predeceased by a son, Boguslaw Konopka, her brother Jesse Madrak, her sister Halina Prusaczyk and niece Anna Prusaczyk. Zofia worked for over 30 years in building maintenance and retired from ABM Janitorial Services in 2005. In addition to caring for her family and home, she loved to read, garden and always found time to a help friends in need. Her warm and generous spirit will be missed by those who knew her. For the last four years since Zofia's cancer diagnosis, her daughter Eva devoted her life to the selfless, loving care of her mother. Zofia's family would like to give special thanks to her oncologist, Dr. Heather Einstein, the infusion nurses at the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center in Hartford, and the nurses and staff of Hartford Hospital CB2 unit.

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Zofia’s life will be held Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 11:00am in SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, 63 Popieluszko Court, Hartford. Interment will follow the Mass in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, (Sacred Heart Section), 1 Cottage Grove Rd., Bloomfield. There are no Calling hours. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made to SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, 63 Popieluszko Court, Hartford, CT 06106 or the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center, 79 Retreat Ave., Hartford, CT 06106.
