Obituary for Robert J. "Bob" Flanigan Sr.

Robert J. "Bob" Flanigan Sr.
Robert J. “Bob” Flanigan, Sr., 88, loving husband of the late Pauline (Bracken) Flanigan, peacefully passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at The Residence, South Windsor, with his children at his side. Bob was born January 13, 1929 and raised in Hartford, son to the late James J. and Alice (Carey) Flanigan. He attended and graduated from Saint Augustin’s, the Hartford Seminary and went onto earn a Bachelor Degree from University of Hartford. Bob served our country in US Army Intelligence, specializing in analyzing aerial reconnaissance. Prior to his retirement, Bob was an Underwriter and Officer of The Hartford Insurance Company for over 30 years. Bob was involved in many civic organizations which included being past Exalted Ruler of BPOE # 19 of Hartford, and a former District Deputy of Connecticut. He also enjoyed being a member of the Hartford Saengerbund and the Officers and Enlisted Club, as well as a faithful parishioner of the Church of the Incarnation, Wethersfield. Bob’s passion for ballroom dancing included travels near and far to never miss an opportunity to dance. Bob’s greatest joy was his family, especially the annual Cape Cod vacations, which continue to this day, the weekend Misquamicut trips and the never ending get-togethers with extended family members. Dad loved his NY Yankees and Giants, and never missed an opportunity to detail their superiority over the Red Sox, Orioles and Patriots. He never missed an opportunity to attend his grandchildren’s sports and school activities.
Bob was a regular guy who loved to laugh, tell stories, tease people and have fun.
Bob will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his children and their spouses, Susan and Robert Lobban of Tolland, Michael and Pamela Flanigan, and Kathleen and David Bolles all of Wethersfield; five grandchildren, Nicole, Krista, Meaghan, Matthew and Tyler; as well as many close and dear friends. In addition to his wife and parents, Bob was predeceased by a son Robert J. Flanigan Jr. and a brother, James Flanigan. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the Flanigan family Friday, November 10, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. at the Farley Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Bob’s life will be held Saturday, November 11th at 10am in the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St. Wethersfield (all attendees are asked to go directly to the church). Interment will follow the Mass in Rose Hill Memorial Park (Section 16), 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill. To extend online condolences and/or share a memory, please visit farleysullivan.com.
