Condolences

Condolence From: Mary Ellen Moriarty
Condolence: Dearest Arlene, Margaret, Richie, Kathleen, Kerry, Kelly and family

At this difficult time in all your lives, I pray that God will grant you the serenity and peace that you need to get through this.

I knew John/Arlene because we are family related so my memories are purely on a personal level. What an honor to read about his professional commitments and achievements on a local, state, federal and national level and it explains very simply to me why he was always saluted. He was a man who deserved the salute! He certainly lived his life in a true and unconditional exemplary manner. Wow! His commitment to family, community and all shine through so bright. It stands tall that he was a man who didn't talk the talk but he walked that walk and proudly so. How blessed were those that walked that path with him. May his values guide you forever in the path of life.

I had the first chance in getting to know John/Arlene when they visited me while living in Ireland. John, a proud Cork (Munster) man travelled the long and windy road to visit me in Dingle at my parents suggestion. We enjoyed dinners at The Benners Hotel and pints in Foxy John's with long discussions on the Easter Rising and the generations before him participation in it. This was a personal journey for John and how proud his fathers before him would be to see the recognition they finally received obtained thru John's efforts. It was important for John they be remembered in an inclusive way that recognized the complexity of time as well as acknowledge their courage, vision, idealism and determination as those men from beyond the wave helped to create free Ireland. This was a journey for John that was not just into family memory but national and international history. He was so proud that he and those gone before him were part of that freedom. Following Ireland, I have fond memories of the Irish Club, dinners at Franks Downtown discussing hunger strikes, the "Army" and all the causes ... we could go on and on. Many fun times at the Maple Cafe, and we followed an Irish soccer team from Eire to Boston and I guess it was just for fun as I look back to those years.

Bealtaine anam Eoin pas a fháil trí Éirinn. 'May your soul pass through Ireland, John". In my future when I sing the Irish National Anthem, the Soldiers Song I will smile as I approach the verse ... soldiers are we, whose lives are pledged to Ireland... from a land beyond the wave... as you can proudly stand with those who offered tireless support for Irish independence.

Slan and slainte... til we meet again. Up the Kingdom

My apologies in missing the service I've just had surgery and am unable at the moment. As well, this is typed with one finger so please excuse the typos.

Condolence: Arlene, my condolence on the loss of a wonderful man. I had the good fortune of living in Wethersfield for over 30 years and was fortunate to know many members of the Wethersfield Volunteer Fire Dept such as John and his predecessor Jiggs whose service and personal sacrifice made Wethersfield a great place to live.

Condolence: Oh Arlene and Peggy I am so sorry.
I am remembering the fun we (joan, Arlene and John) had attending all those White Publishing parties together. How proud I always was and how humble he was when I would introduce him as him as Chief MacAuliffe..

I was always grateful that he would be so straightforward and respectful when discussing the news of the fire department or of the MDC. He was a hardworking and honorable and deeply knowledgeable public servant of Wethersfield, carrying on the traditions of this town's proud volunteer firefighters. And a loyal and enjoyable friend.

I count myself among many in this town and state and nationwide who will miss him.

Condolence: Arlene, We are so sorry to hear of John's passing. John was a great fire service leader. He was a mentor to me when I joined the NVFC Board and he gave me good advice all the time we served together on NFPA Committees. Arlen, you and John, Judy and I attended many NVFC meetings all over the country over the years, many great memories. He will be missed. Our prayers go out to you.

Condolence: Our thoughts and prayers to the family - especially Arlene and Peggy. We did not know him personally, but we often saw John and Arlene on their back porch at Hampton Beach; entertaining and just enjoying life. We'll miss seeing him there.

Condolence: Thoughts and prayers to the family of Chief McAuliffe. Unfortunately, I did not know him personally, but I can see that he made an incredible mark on the nation's Fire Service. Thank you to him for his service and to his family for their support of that service. People like him do not come along very often. May he rest in peace.

Condolence: I've known and loved John for years, from my time on the Town Council to our most recent time together as members of the Charter Revision Commission. Every section of our Town Charter caused John to reflect on something in Town that he knew a story about, and between him and Chief Knapp the meetings were not only important to how we govern ourselves but truly enriching, bringing us all back to the roots of our beloved Town. I will miss giving him our weekly donation in Church and his extremely warm ways in connecting with people. Love the man. Steve

Condolence From: Johnson family
Condolence: Death is never easy. When Lazarus died, Jesus “groaned in the spirit and became troubled,” and shortly afterward he “gave way to tears.” (John 11:33, 35) So, when someone we love dies, it does not show weakness to cry. God will wipe out every tear from our eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. (Revelation 21:4).May the God of love comfort the McAuliffe family and friends.
