Joan Louise (Clegg) O’Connell, 81, of South Lyme, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 08, 2016. She was the widow of Charles O’Connell. Joan was born in Hartford on February 25, 1935 and was the daughter of William and Louise (Landry) Clegg. She lived in Glastonbury for 44 years before relocating to her favorite place, Point O’Woods Beach, South Lyme. She was a graduate of Bulkeley High School. She retired from Patrons Mutual Insurance Company in 1997. Joan was a lifelong Red Sox fan and was elated when they won the World Series. She also loved the UCONN Girls’ Basketball team and had enjoyed many trips to the Final Four with her daughter, son-in-law and friends. Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren. Joan leaves her daughters’ and their spouses; Karen and Jeffrey Hale of Milford, MA, Eileen and Stephen Turner of Cheshire; her daughter-in-law Kathleen Kelly and her husband Brian Corr, of Cambridge; six grand children, Samuel, Nathaniel and Emma Hale, Courtney and Claire Turner, as well as Liam O’Connell. In addition to her husband and parents, Joan was predeceased by her son, Kevin O’Connell. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the family Thursday, August 11, 2016 from 4-6pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Ave. Glastonbury. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Joan’s life will be held Friday, August 12, 2016 at 10am directly in St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury. Burial will follow the Mass in Rose Hill Memorial Park (Section 10), 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111.
