Katherine G. Quish Katherine "Kay" (Griffin) Quish, 94, of Hartford died Saturday April 18, 2009 after a long and happy life. She was the wife of the late William J Quish who predeceased her on December 14, 2005. Born in Hartford October 7, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Maurice P and Katherine (Murphy) Griffin. She attended St. Peter's School and graduated from Bulkeley High School class of 1932B. She worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 20 years before leaving to get married and start a family at age 40. Later in life she was an Executive Secretary for Church Homes Inc. She was a communicant of St Lawrence O'Toole Church in Hartford for over 65 years and was very active in the Rosary Alter Society. She was also a CCD instructor for the youth in the parish for many years. Kay was also involved with the Connecticut Valley Girl Scout Council devoting her time with the annual cookie sales and weekend jamborees at Camp Alice Merit in Tolland. A tireless volunteer, she worked with the American Heart Association and American Cancer Society. She instilled in her children from an early age how important giving back to the community. She spent all of her summers at Indian Neck in Branford, a place she truly loved. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and made several trips to Ireland to visit family and friends. In later years, she became a devout UCONN Women's Basketball fan and loved following “the girls". Her greatest love however was her family, to which she gave all her support and loved unconditionally. Her three children, Martin Quish and his partner Anthony Zitelli of Somerset NJ, Mary Katherine Quish and her partner Perry Williams of Hartford and Gregory Quish and his wife Frances of Hartford survive her. Her beloved granddaughter Katie Quish also survives her. Besides her husband and parents, Kay was predeceased by all of her siblings, sister Mary Campbell and brothers Maurice, Jack and William Griffin. Funeral services will be held Wednesday April 22, 2009 at 8:00am from the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home 34 Beaver Road Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am in St. Peter Church, 160 Main Street, Hartford. Burial will be in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery (Section J), 1 Cottage Grove Road, Bloomfield. Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Tuesday April 21, 2009 from 4:00-8:00pm. Memorial donations may be made in Katherine’s name to the Literacy Volunteers of Greater Hartford, 30 Arbor St., Hartford, CT 06106.
