She attended local schools and graduated from Stamford High School in 1949, then became a licensed hairdresser upon graduating from the Smithcroft School of Hairdressing in Bridgeport. Changing careers, she worked for the Springdale Bank in Stamford. She married George C. Upton in 1954, and subsequently became the mother of George A. Upton and Barbara (Upton) Tyczkowski. She was also a member of the League of the Sacred Heart in St. Paul Church. Besides her husband, Melinda leaves her son, George A. Upton, her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara (Upton) and Peter Tyczkowski of Glastonbury; her grandchildren, Kathryn (Tyczkowski) Grabarek and her husband Andrew of Clinton, and John Tyczkowski of Glastonbury. She also leaves her sister, Marge (Prizio) Viggiano, and her husband Andrew of Norwalk. Melinda was greatly loved by her family; she will be remembered for her stories and consistently cheerful mood.
