BILL WARREN NORTH, 90, of Newington died peacefully Sunday night with his family at his bedside. He was born on July 20th , 1923 in Hamden, CT. Bill spent his younger years in Hamden, attending school there until 1937, except for the 1934-35 school year in which he attended school in Litchfield, CT. Bill moved with his family to Glastonbury in 1937, where he finished high school and graduated with the Class of 1940. In early 1941, he started in the business world as an office boy for the now defunct Gray Manufacturing Co. in Hartford. Later in 1941, he started working at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft of East Hartford, CT. Except for a two year absence, Bill worked there until 1980 when he retired – a span of 39 years. He spent his last 29 years with P&W in the Product Support Publications department where he was employed as a Senior Technical Writer, and at one time, served as a Technical Writing Supervisor. In 1942, Bill moved to Cleveland, OH where he later enlisted in the Army Air Force (then known as the Army Air Corps). While in the armed forces, Bill also spent time in the Infantry and the Signal Corps and attended the University of Ohio in Athens, where he studied Engineering for one semester. Bill was honorably discharged in the Fall of 1944 and returned to work at Pratt & Whitney. He married his wife, Lena Bronzi of Glastonbury, on December 2nd, 1944. They were married 34 years before her death in June of 1979. After his retirement in 1980, he enjoyed several “odd jobs”, including writing articles for “The Wooden Nutmeg”, a journal dedicated to antique enthusiasts. In 1990, Bill moved to Newington, CT where he lived until his death. He was active in the Senior and Disabled Center of Newington. Bill leaves his two sons, Richard W. North of Old Saybrook, CT and his wife, Linda, and Mitchell A. North of Newington, CT and his wife, Felicia. He also leaves his granddaughter, Kristen North, his great-grandson, Kevin Glantzberg and great-granddaughter, Allison Glantzberg, all of Middletown, NJ. Bill was predeceased by his newborn son, William M. North, his wife, Lena; his older brother, USAF Retired Major Richard A. North and his wife, Mickey North; his grandson Michael S. North and his daughter-in-law, Marian (Harkins) North. The funeral service will be held on Friday August 23, 2013 at 12:00 at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Ave. Glastonbury, CT. Burial will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery, Hopewell Rd., South Glastonbury, CT. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 to 12:00 Friday.
