History of Service

The Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home began serving residents of Hartford and surrounding towns in 1943 when Thomas F. Farley opened the Thomas F. Farley Funeral Home at 96 Webster Street in Hartford.Robert P. Sullivan joined the funeral home after attending the New York School of Embalming and Restorative Art. In time, Mr. Sullivan assumed the role of managing and operating the funeral home for Mrs. Thomas F. Farley. Upon the death of Marguerite Farley in 1964, Bob Sullivan continued to operate the funeral home, eventually assuming ownership.

Bob was joined in the funeral home by his sons Bob, Kevin and Tom as they each graduated and became licensed Embalmer/Funeral Directors.

The same year, 1943 John J. Sullivan, no relation, opened the Sullivan Funeral Home of Glastonbury, along with his son Leo Sullivan.
In 1977 Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home purchased the Sullivan Funeral Home at 50 Naubuc Avenue in Glastonbury, thereby expanding its service to families in the Glastonbury/East Hartford area.

In 1996 the Webster Street facility, in Hartford, which had served as the funeral home for 53 years, could no longer accommodate the growing size of funerals, creating an opportunity for Mr. Sullivan to purchase a building at 34 Beaver Road in Wethersfield. This 11,000 sq. ft. building was remodeled and transformed into a state of the art facility.
Robert "Bob" Sullivan Sr. (1924-2005) is the former owner and operater of Farley-Sullivan Funeral Homes. He was a licensed Funeral Director for 55 years. Bob was very involved in the community as well as many organizations/clubs including the Irish American Home Society, BPOE #19, Knights of Columbus, The VFW and The Ancient Order of Hibernians. He was honored by the Hartford Fire Department Emerald Society as the Man of the Year in 1980, by the United Irish Societies as Man of the Year in 1981, the Wethersfield St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee Town Marshal in 1988, and The Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick's Man of the Year in 1991. Bob's children Bobby(1950-2013) Kevin, and Tom are all licensed funeral directors as well as his grandson, Tom's son, Brendan.
