Obituary for Felix Anthony McDonald

Felix Anthony McDonald, 93, son of the late James A. McDonald and Sara (Doyle) McDonald passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Rockville General Hospital after a brief illness. Felix was born in Crandoon, Mullaghmast, Co. Kildare, Ireland. He was the beloved husband of Christina (Moran) McDonald for all of fifty-nine wonderful years.
Felix came to the United States almost sixty years ago, first landing in New York. He had one major intention in mind and that was to marry the love of his life, Christina (Diane), whom he had met while she returned to Ireland on a visit to see her family. Felix left everything he knew to start a life in the United States. As his passport noted, Felix was a butcher by trade, being employed at Finast Supermarkets for his entire career until he retired in 1990. He started there within a month of his arrival to the United States while often working at several additional markets to provide for his family. Felix took great pride in his skill as a butcher which he exhibited numerous times at family gatherings, always bringing his own sharpening steel and best carving knife.
Felix was the last of his siblings. He was preceded in death by his brothers James, Owen, and Patrick and his sisters Mary and Eileen and their spouses.
Felix leaves his beloved wife Diane, son James, daughter Mary Rose, daughter in law Maeve (Milford) his son in law Joseph Duberek (Tolland) and his cherished grandson Christopher Duberek (Tolland).
Sadly missed by his niece Lorna Gormley, Cousin Thomas Mc Donald and his wife Bridget, from Co. Kildare, Ireland along with many relations and friends here and in Ireland. A heart felt special thanks is extended to his caregivers, Carol and Alcine, who made every day possible. Felix was a devout Catholic, loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many in the USA and Ireland. May he Rest in Peace.
Felix was a long-time resident of Wethersfield and twenty-nine winter seasons in Florida, until moving to Tolland two years ago. Felix was a gifted athlete and a member of the winning Blackrock College team who won the Leinster Schools Senior Cup for rugby in 1942. He was a founding member of the Athlone Rugby Club. Felix continued his passion for sports in supporting the UConn Huskies and could often be found sitting beside his beloved Diane watching the occasional game of Golf and their favorite game shows.
In keeping with Irish tradition, friends may call at Felix’s home, 120 Valley View Drive, Wethersfield, CT 06109, Friday, September 14th from 2pm to 7pm.
