Obituary for Esther Harriet McGee (Karweick)

Esther Harriet McGee (Karweick)
Esther H. McGee, 87, of Newington, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 22, 2018 in St. Francis Hospital with her family at her side. Esther was born September 3, 1930 and raised in Rochester, NY, daughter to the late Harry and Anna Karweick. Esther, with her daughter Lynn, moved to Connecticut in the early 1960’s, where she secured a job as a Typesetter for various companies, including The Graphic Center and New England Typesetters (NETS). Esther later contracted with AR Mazzotta, where she worked in the Billing Dept at Middlesex Hospital into her 80’s.
Esther was an independent, strong-willed and hardy soul. She enjoyed reading, watching hockey and softball, as well as Friday Happy Hours with her family and friends. One of Esther’s proudest accomplishments was skydiving at the age of 82. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, attending hundreds of softball, field hockey and ice hockey games throughout New England. She was recognized as the Wethersfield High School hockey fan of the year in 2005. Esther was blessed with a loving daughter who involved her in all her life’s activities and events.
Esther will be dearly missed by her beloved daughter, Lynn Fleming and her husband David, of Wethersfield; her adored grandchildren Lyndsay Fleming of Glastonbury, Tim Fleming and his wife Katie, of Glastonbury and Courtney Fleming of Denver, CO; her dear sister, Grace Garvey of Fairport, NY; and special nieces, Nancy Pape, Janet Sharp, Sandy Smith and Adele Garvey, all in NY. In addition to her parents, Esther was predeceased by a brother Harry Jr.
The family wishes to thank the St. Francis caregivers in the Special 8-9 Unit and the Hospice Team, the Salmon Brook Center and Masonicare for their compassion and kindness.
Friends and family pay their respects Monday, August 27, 2018 from 4-7pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Celebration of Esther’s life will be held Tuesday, August 28th at 11:00am in the Meeting House of the First Church of Christ, 250 Main St., Wethersfield. Attendees are asked to go directly to the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested in Esther’s name to the Wethersfield High School Hockey Alumni Scholarship Fund, 644 Prospect Street, Wethersfield, CT 06109 and/or the CT Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, 200 Executive Blvd S #4b, Southington, CT 06489.
