Obituary for Patricia "Pat" Flannery (Leahy)
Patricia “Pat” (Leahy) Flannery, 79, of Glastonbury, loving wife for 49 years to the late John T. “Jack” Flannery, peacefully passed away Monday, August 13, 2018 surrounded by her caring family. Pat was born March 31, 1939 to the late Thomas Patrick and Kathleen (Bowler) Leahy, both from County Kerry, Ireland. Pat attended Hartford Schools and was a graduate of Hartford Public High School, Class of 1959.
Pat and Jack moved to Glastonbury in 1968 where they built a loving home for their family. As her roots were in Hartford, she began her career with the Hartford Board of Education, then went to work for The Connecticut State Department of Mental Health, where she was the Executive Assistant to the Commissioner, prior to her retirement in 1997. Her most important job was that of being a mother to her two daughters, teaching them good values and as she was a first generation American, to be proud of their Irish Heritage. Pat, along with Jack, was a lifelong member of the Irish American Home Society, Glastonbury, loved listening to music, was an avid reader, and thoroughly enjoyed to travel to new places with family and friends. She was truly devoted to her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Pat will always be remembered for her warm smile, terrific sense of humor and an infectious laugh.
Pat will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her two daughters and their spouses, Kathleen (Flannery) Doucette and her husband Marc, of Granby, Christine (Flannery) Merrill and her husband Justin, of Glastonbury; four adored grandchildren, Matthew Doucette, Meaghan Doucette, Colin Merrill and Liam Merrill; a brother and sister-in-law Francis and Eileen Flannery of South Windsor; a sister-in-law Maureen Dodge of Virginia; as well as several nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, Pat was predeceased by her brother Thomas Patrick Leahy.
Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the family, Friday, August 17, 2018 from 4-7 pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Ave., Glastonbury. A Mass of Christian Burial, celebrating Pat’s life will be Saturday, August 18th at 10 am in St. Paul Church of St. Isadore & Maria Parish, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury (all attendees are requested to go directly to the church). Interment will follow the Mass in Holy Cross Cemetery (Section 2), 17 Wickham Rd., at the corner of Hebron Ave., Glastonbury.
