Obituary for Michael Gorman

Michael Gorman
Michael T. “Mike” Gorman 78 of West Hartford, loving husband of Kathleen (Doyle) Gorman, peacefully passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at home with his family at his side. Mike was born January 11, 1940, and raised in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Michael Joseph and Catherine (Reilly) Gorman. He attended schools in New York before graduating from Mount St. Joseph High School in Baltimore, Maryland. He was accepted to and attended the Citadel Military College in South Carolina, before entering in the United States Army. Honorably discharged from the Army, Mike then started his Fire Career with the New York Fire Patrol in New York City, where he worked for a few years, before moving to West Hartford and joining the West Hartford Fire Department. After a few years with West Hartford he then became a member of the Hartford Fire Department in 1968, working his way up through the ranks to the position of Deputy Fire Chief and retiring in 1997. Mike was a founding member and past President of the Hartford Firefighters Emerald Society, a member of the Hartford Firefighters’ Protective Association, the Hartford Firemen’s Benevolent Society, serving as secretary for many years and the 20 Club, as well as a member and officer of the Hartford Firefighters Union, Local 760 and a member the Board of Directors of the Hartford Firefighters Credit Union. In addition, he belonged to the Moose Club, the VFW and the Elks Club. After his retirement from Hartford, he became a member of the Thurman Volunteer Fire Dept. in Athol, NY. The Gorman family would like to thank S’phunelele Ndlovu for her care and compassion to Mike. Mike was a devout family man, who will be deeply missed by his loving wife Kathleen; a son, Michael J. Gorman of Hartford; two daughters and a son-in-law, Debra A. and Ed Cabral in Florida and Kelly A. Gorman of West Hartford; and six adored grandchildren, Jonathan Gorman, Kyle Cabral, Reilly Cabral, Kathleen Cabral, Rhiannon Dean and Heather Dean.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Mike’s life will be held Monday, June 11, 2018 at 10am in St. Timothy’s Church, 1116 North Main St., West Hartford (attendees are asked to go directly to the church). Interment with military honors will follow the Mass in Fairview Cemetery, 200 Whitman Ave. West Hartford.
