The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Elizabeth Burns can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Condolence From: The Family of Theresa Forsdick
Condolence: We first met Sister Betty a little more than a year ago when my wife, Terry Forsdick, was struggling with Alzheimers and terminal cancer and was unable to attend mass at the Church of the Incarnation in Wethersfield. Sister Betty came to our house to bring Holy Communion. We soon found out how much more she brought! She blessed Terry (and us) with cheerful words of wisdom, a beautiful smile, and spiritual blessings. After her second visit, she and Terry bonded and became best friends. She would continue to bring her Communion every Sunday. Terry longed for Sister Betty's next Sunday visit. It was the highlight of every week. There are no words to describe how much comfort, spiritual uplifting and friendship Sister Betty brought week after week. She brought great support and comfort to the family as well. Sister Betty attended Terry's’s funeral in June. She was a remarkable person, an angel on earth and our family and I will never forget her. Our prayers and heartfelt condolences go out to the Burns family.

Condolence From: The Noonan/DeFrancesco Family
Condolence: We first met Sister Betty less than 2 years ago when my wife (Maryellen Noonan) was struggling with terminal cancer and was unable to attend mass at the Church of the Incarnation in Wethersfield. Sister Betty came to our house to bring Holy Communion and after visiting with us for a short while she said to Maryellen “we’re going to be best friends” and she would continue to bring her Communion every Sunday. There are no words to describe how much comfort, spiritual uplifting and friendship Sister Betty brought week after week. As Maryellen’s health declined, she was unable to leave our upstairs bedroom and asked me to call Sister Betty and tell her not to come anymore because she didn’t want Sister to have to climb the stairs. Sister Betty quickly responded by saying “oh please - I go up and down stairs every day in my own house and I’m coming!” Sister Betty attended Maryellen’s funeral in December and insisted on coming to the cemetery on an extremely cold, windy day and sat with us as Father Moran said prayers and gave his final blessing. After that I would continue to see Sister Betty at church right up to Easter Sunday when she gave me a hug and said she knew this was very difficult for me but “her friend Maryellen was looking down on me and would help me through”. Sister Betty was a remarkable person, an angel on earth and my family and I will never forget her. Our prayers and heartfelt condolences go out to the Burns family.

Condolence From: Bernadette Walsh
Condolence: My condolences to the Burns family and the Maryknoll Sisters. Sr. Betty was a very welcoming and generous person. I have memories of driving up from Ontario, to visit her and Aunt Pauline with my mom, Adele (Gibbons) Walsh, my dad, Bob, and our family. We always enjoyed our visits. Sr. Betty remembered my mom and dad, even after Aunt Pauline’s passing, sending flowers at Christmas and staying in contact. May fond memories of Betty carry you through this time of grief. Sincerely, Bernadette Walsh

Condolence From: Fr. Paul F. Walsh, CSB
Condolence: My most heartfelt condolences to Betty's family and friends. I met her several years ago with her "bud" (her term, not mine), and my aunt, Pauline (always "Paul" to Betty). I was immediately captured by her joy, quick wit and obvious love for all in her life. About eight years ago, I made a retreat at Cape Ann MA and on my return trip visited Betty. What a joy that was, and how generous she was in sharing her remembrances of my aunt. She was a real gem, a joy in my life. I have been remembering her at each mass I have celebrated this week here in Mexico City. ¡Que descanse en paz!

Condolence From: Sister Kathy Magee, MM
Condolence: Betty was a “valiant woman,” a true friend, and a gift in the lives of so many of us. We will always remember her generosity and thoughtfulness, her willingness to respond to the needs of others, and her deep faith and trust in God. She was devoted to her large extended family, to us her Maryknoll Sisters in community, and to the many people to whom she ministered through the years … in Korea, at the CT Department of Health, and in Incarnation parish. I extend my heartfelt sympathies and prayers especially to Bill and Pat, Mary Ann, and Jack and Pam, all the Burns clan, and to her Maryknoll Sisters in Eastern U.S. Region at this sudden loss of their sister, aunt, and friend. Betty will surely be a strong advocate and intercessor for us with God in the Realms of Glory.
