Obituary for Richard M. Healy

Richard "Dick" Healy, 89, of Newington, passed away peacefully at home on April 11, 2018 surrounded by his family. Dick was a graduate of Weaver High School, class of 1945. His love of sports included accomplishments on the Weaver High School Cross Country Track and Baseball Teams. He worked as a caddy at golf courses in the Hartford area and became an excellent golfer himself. He served in the US Army after high school and was recruited on the Army's baseball team and played in Germany. Following his Honorable Discharge from the Army in 1948, he worked at the Fuller Brush Company and was recruited to their golf team, where they won the championship tournament. Dick was also a proud member of the University of Notre Dame's Subway Alumni. GO IRISH!!! While they were both employed at Fuller Brush, he met the love of his life, Monique Brochu and they were married in Feb 1953. Dick worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years as a Letter Carrier and retired in 1984. Dick and Monique built their home in Newington, CT next door to Dick's sister and brother-in-law, Anne & Norman Gaudet, where Monique continues to reside. Dick was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law; Anne and Norman Gaudet and their son Richard. He is survived by his wife, Monique of 65 years, his four daughters; Maureen Demers and her husband Renaud, Eileen Walsh and her husband Charles, Joanne Sabino and her husband Michael Jambard, Patricia Carter and her husband Brian. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren; Nicole, Tara, Erin, Catherine, Matthew, Sheila, Stephanie, Michael, Christine and Nathan as well as seven great grandchildren; Abigail, Daniel, Julia, Isla, Ryan, Shayla, and Lily and Dick's cousin and best friend, James Tuohy, nephew, Edward Gaudet and his wife Lila and family, his niece Kathleen Carter and her son Patrick and his wife Kathleen. A special thanks to their wonderful neighbors, Don & Lorraine Beaulieu and Carlos & Josephine Rodriguez for their continuous love and support. Dick's family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the staff at Bel-Air Manor and the Hartford Healthcare at Home Hospice Care. Friends may call on Friday April 13, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd, Wethersfield, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Dick’s life will be held Saturday April 14, 2018 at 10:00 am in St. Mary Church (Annunciation Parish), 626 Willard Ave., Newington. All attendees are asked to go directly to church. Burial will follow in West Meadow Cemetery 679 Willard Ave., Newington.
