Obituary for Evangeline Sayers (Maillet)

Evangeline (Maillet) Sayers, 101, of Glastonbury, wife of the late Gilbert Sayers, passed away February 14, 2018 in Hartford Hospital. She was born in New Brunswick, CA, daughter of the late Joseph and Lidy (Bernard) Maillet and moved to Gardner, MA at a young age. Evangeline came to East Hartford, along with her sister, Bertha in her early twenties and settled in the area. She was a loving mother to her children as a stay at home mom and always had a strong bond with her brothers and sisters after immigrating to the US together. Evangeline was an avid reader, liked to sew and enjoyed bingo nights. She was a devout Catholic and a regular Communicant at St. Paul Church. She also was very proud of becoming a citizen in her late 80’s and remaining very independent.
Evangeline will be fondly remembered by her three sons, Bernard Sayers and his wife Jerri, of East Hartford, Robert Sayers and his wife Sylvie of South Windsor and Thomas Sayers and his wife Lisa of New London, as well as her two sisters, Audette Niemela and Huberte (Bertha) Martin, 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by 9 brothers and sisters.
Friends may call TODAY Saturday February 17, 2018 from 9:00- 10:00 am at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Ave., Glastonbury. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Evangeline’s life will be held at 10:30 am in ST. Paul Church of SS Isadore and Maria Parish, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury.
