Obituary for Joanne A. Walsh (Archer)

Joanne (Archer) Walsh, 85, of Hartford, loving wife of the late Robert T. Walsh, peacefully passed away Monday, January 22, 2018 in Hughes Health and Rehab, West Hartford. Joanne was born and raised in Hartford, daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (McCarthy) Archer. She resided in Hartford all of her life. Joanne was a graduate of, St. Augustine Grammar School, Mount St. Joseph Academy, and St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1953. Prior to her retirement, Joanne put her nursing skills to work, becoming the School Nurse for the A. I. Prince Technical High School in Hartford. In addition to working as a nurse, Joanne was very active with the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association. She gave countless hours volunteering her time at St. Francis Hospital Repetitions Thrift Shop and for St. Augustine’s Church Food Pantry. She was a fan of UCONN Women’s Basketball, attending four Final Four Tournaments.
Joanne will be missed and remembered by her two sons, Timothy J. Walsh and Jean Walsh of Colchester and Robert T. Walsh, Jr. and his wife Kathleen, of Bradenton, FL; two daughters, Deborah Clark and her husband Raymond, of Newington and Patricia Ricketson and her husband James, of Plainville; her adored grandchildren, Erin, Jason, Colleen, Casey, Shannon, Bridgit, Beth, Kellie, Timothy Jr., Andrew, Alaina, Emily and Christopher; eleven cherished great grandchildren; as well as her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Joanne was predeceased by her brother John Archer.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Smilow Cancer Center of St. Francis Hospital, for all their care and compassion extended to Joanne.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Joanne’s life will be Saturday, January 27, 2018, at 11 a.m. directly in St. Augustine Church, 10 Campfield Ave., Hartford, with her nephew, Rev. Jeffrey Archer as the celebrant. Interment will follow the Mass in Cedar Hill Cemetery (Section 12), 453 Fairfield Ave., Hartford. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations are requested to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
