Obituary for James R. Duggan

James (Jim) Duggan, 81, of Wethersfield, died peacefully on January 13, 2018, with his loving wife and family at his side.
Jim was born and raised in East Hartford, CT, son of the late Edward and Mildred (Balf) Duggan. He attended St Mary’s School, and he served as an altar boy at St. Mary’s Church. He graduated from East Hartford High School, where he was President of the Student Council and voted as having done most for his class. He continued his education at the University of Connecticut where he met his loving wife Judy (Dully) Duggan. Upon graduation, he was awarded his commission as a 2nd Lt. in the United States Army. He served two years of active duty at Fort Hood, Texas, and continued his long military career, retiring as a Lt. Colonel in the Connecticut Army National Guard, as a Public Affairs Officer. He later obtained his MBA from Western New England College. He also had a successful career in advertising and public relations in the manufacturing industry. Jim’s life revolved around his family, and he was happiest being with his loved ones. When his children were young, the “7Ds” enjoyed many memorable “bold journeys”. Later in life, he became interested in running and he completed many marathons, including New York, his favorite. He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Judy, and his five children, Karen D’Elia, George Duggan, Kathleen Knapik and her husband Michael, James Duggan, and Thomas Duggan and his wife Jennifer. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren James, Jack, and Connor D’Elia, Emily White and her husband James, Mary Beth Thomas and her husband Nicholas, Katie Rose and James Knapik, and Matthew and Tommy Duggan, and two great-grandchildren, Levi and Norah White. He also leaves his brothers Owen Duggan and T. Patrick Duggan and his wife Ann, and several nieces and nephews. Jim was dedicated to his family, and he will always be remembered for his modesty, humor, and service to family, community and country. He was a man of faith and he will always be with us. Love is Eternal.
