Obituary for Eileen C. Ryan (Maguire)

Eileen Catherine (Maguire) Ryan, 89, wife of the late William H. Ryan, of Wethersfield, passed away peacefully January 1, 2018 at Maple View Health and Rehabilitation, with her family by her side. She was born in Hartford on March 4, 1928, daughter of the late James and Margaret (Mullane) Maguire. Eileen was a graduate of Mount Saint Joseph Academy and in her sixties completed the requirements for an Associate’s degree, based on life experience and completion of testing. Prior to her retirement Eileen served as the Communications Director for the State of Connecticut Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission. She was a voracious reader and always carried a book with her. She enjoyed traveling, visiting Ireland, Italy and numerous other places. She enjoyed the theater and along with her husband Bill, directed and produced local theater. She had wonderful memories of camping with the Bacon family and Fridays at Charlotte’s.
Eileen will be missed deeply by her three children, Melinda Sykura and her husband Jay, of Wethersfield, Christopher Ryan and his wife Sheila Koughan, of Bristol and Jennifer Yourey and her husband Tony, of PA., seven grandchildren, Jason Bednarz and his wife Su, Anthony Yourey and his wife Jennifer, William Yourey and his wife Missy, Rebecca Lupole and her husband CJ, Joseph Yourey and his fiancée Chelsea Huff, Lucas Yourey and his wife Shana, and Adam Sykura, as well as three great-grandchildren, Carson, Liam and Eli Yourey. She was predeceased by her brother James Maguire. Eileen was a wonderful Mom and a kind and gentle woman. She always had a smile for everyone and was gracious to the end.

Friends may call on Friday January 5, 2018 from 4-7 pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Memorial Service celebrating Eileen’s life will be held Saturday January 6, 2018 at 10:00 am at the funeral home.
