Obituary for Kathryn Riordan (Slattery)

Kathryn (Slattery) Riordan, 101, wife of the late Edward G. Riordan, passed away peacefully December 28, 2017, in Vernon Manor. She was born in Hartford, daughter of the late Patrick J. and Nora (Brody) Slattery and lived in the Hartford area all her life. Kathryn was a graduate of Weaver High School and was the Academic Speaker at graduation. She went on to graduate from Merchant and Bankers Secretarial School in Hartford. She lived in Quantico, VA during WW II with Ed and returned to Hartford after the war. Prior to her retirement, Kathryn was a Receptionist at the Chancery for the Archdiocese of Hartford. She was a member of the Northwest Child Welfare Club and the St. Justin Church and Church of the Incarnation Women’s Clubs and also loved knitting and playing bridge with her Bridge Club. Kathryn leaves her two daughters, Patricia Brown of Manchester and Joanne Collins and her husband John of Belchertown, MA., four grandchildren, William Edward Brown, John A. Collins IV and his wife Melissa, Christopher E. Collins and his wife Maria and Michael S. Collins. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Mary Slattery of NJ, seven great-grandchildren and two cousins Dympna Roseingrave of Ireland and Theresa Slattery of OH. Kathryn was predeceased by her husband Edward G. Riordan, her brother Jack Slattery, her sister Helen Smyth and her son-in-law William Brown. Friends may call Thursday January 4, 2018 from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Kathryn’s life will be held at 11:00 am in Christ the King Parish at Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Hwy, Wethersfield. Burial will follow in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Rd. Bloomfield. Memorial donations may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 1365 Enfield St. Enfield, CT 06082.
