Obituary for Carmelo A. Privitera

Carmelo A. (Mel) Privitera, 90, husband of Lucy J. (Pappalardo) Privitera, of Rocky Hill, passed away peacefully September 15, 2017 in Hartford Hospital, with his family at his side. He was born in Hartford on June 17, 1927, son of the late Sebastian and Gaetana (Monterosso) Privitera and lived in the area all of his life. Mel was a graduate of the Ward School of Electronics and served in the US Navy during WW II. He went on to work for HELCO, later Northeast Utilities, retiring in 1988 as Manager of the Revenue Protection Department. Mel was a lifetime member of The Knights of Columbus and The Elks, a charter member, officer and board director of The Wethersfield Chapter of UNICO and an officer of the South Catholic High School Men’s Club. At Helco, he was President of the Men’s Club and of the 25 Year Club. Mel loved the Yankees, Giants and all Notre Dame sports.

Besides his wife of 67 years, Mel leaves his daughter, Gaeann Cormier and her husband Raymond of Westerville, OH, his two sons, Paul Privitera and his wife Jean of South Bend, IN and Rocky Hill and Peter Privitera and his wife Mary Ann of Wethersfield and Westbrook, 4 grandchildren, Diane Savage and her husband Christopher, Joseph Matthew Cormier and his wife Nicole, Lynne Buccheri and her husband Rocco and Laurie Privitera and 8 great-grandchildren. He also leaves his brother, Salvatore Privitera and his wife Dorothea of North Port, FL, his sisters-in-law Frances Gorynski and Constance Ward and her husband Bill and numerous nieces and nephews. Mel was predeceased by his granddaughter Sarah Ann Privitera, sister Mary Stevens and his closest friend and brother-in-law Raymond Gorynski.

Friends may call from 4-7 pm on Thursday September 21, 2017 at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Mel’s life will be celebrated on Friday September 22, 2017 at 10:00 am in the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St, Wethersfield. (All attendees are requested to go directly to church). Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, 580 Elm St. Rocky Hill.
