Obituary for Frederick F. "Fred" Ward

Frederick F. “Fred” Ward, 89, of Wethersfield, beloved husband of the late Janet N. (Wyka) Ward, passed away peacefully, Monday August 14, 2017 in Hartford Hospital. Fred was born March 28, 1928 and raised in Hartford. He was the son of the late Mae (Griffin) Ward. Following his graduation from Weaver High, Class of 1946, Fred continued his education at Hillyer College (University of Hartford) where he earned his Master’s Degree in Business Administration, was the Captain of the Basketball Team along with being awarded the Gordon McCullough Award. He served our country in the United States Navy attaining the rank of Commander. Prior to Janet’s passing in 2014, Fred and Janet were together for 64 years. They resided in Wethersfield since 1969, where they became members of the Church of the Incarnation, as well as the Wethersfield Country Club. Fred was the President of Arrow Tool Co. of Wethersfield. He enjoyed spending time in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. His two greatest passions in life were his family and his Irish Heritage. Fred will be deeply missed by his loving family, three sons and their families: Frederick F. Ward II and his wife Joy, Terence “Terry” S. Ward and his wife, Donna Fiorentino, all of West Hartford, Timothy “Tim” D. Ward, and his wife, Alison Bibbins Ward, of Rocky Hill; five cherished grandchildren, Roxie, Francie, Max, Rosemary and Jacob Ward. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Fred’s life will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 1:00pm in the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. Attendees are asked to go directly to the Church. Interment will follow the Mass in Cedar Hill Cemetery (Section 29), 453 Fairfield Avenue, Hartford. The family requests memorial donations in lieu of flowers be made in Fred’s memory to The Arc of Connecticut, 200 Research Pkwy, Meriden, CT 06450-7171.
